Life really seems to have a way of getting out of control at times. I have meant to begin my blog in earnest about two months ago, but have not had the time. I guess now would be as good as any to start.
Who am I?
I guess it depends on who you ask. To some I am a Preservation Nazi working for the Hysterical Society. To others I am another cog in the wheel of government intrusion into their private lives and property. Some people consider me to be a part of the necessary evil of government oversight to conserve and maintain the historical architecture of my community. While others think that I (and my coworkers) are helping to restore the integrity and importance of historic structures and neighborhoods around our city.
I simply wish to be The Preservationist, doing my best to help aid homeowners, city leaders, and neighborhood organizations in their quest to preserve, maintain, and restore the historic fabric so that future generations can continue to enjoy and understand how our community has developed through the generations. I wish to simply be a gatekeeper for my children and their children to understand where they came from. I wish to understand and respect the history that is associated with each structure and the stories that make each neighborhood unique. Everyone has a story and it deserves to be told. I want to be the voice for the past towards the future. I want to make sure that those that come after me truly know where they came from.
It may sound to ideal to be reality, but that is simply my goal. I am beginning this blog to be able to show the world that just become something is old...it doesn't always have to be replaced. Many (sometimes most) things can be preserved, restored, or replicated to maintain the integrity and character of something bigger than the moment.
This is who I am.
